ITR at the STC Conference and Exhibition, Dallas 17-21 May 2003 -
Dallas USA
Delegates at the STC's 50th annual conference in Dallas, Texas were delighted by
the "timely" arrival of ITR from London! This is the flagship event for the STC and
was attended by around 1500 delegates, mostly senior representatives from companies
at the leading edge of Technical Communications in the 21st Century, including Nokia,
Ericsson and Honda among many others. ITR presented compelling business reasons for US companies to choose a
localisation partner based in London, close to their key target markets in Europe.
With project managers able to converse fluently with our clients' Overseas Sales
Companies or distributors in their native languages and compatible time zones, as
well as teams of professional translators experienced in all major technical
disciplines throughout the world, we are ideally placed to manage complex
localisation projects in partnership with our clients throughout the US and farther
afield. A running presentation outlining our localisation services was projected onto the
rear wall of the stand, and attracted many visitors requiring localisation solutions,
whilst our promotional Big Ben and Beefeater pencil sharpeners became the “must-have”
memento of the event. Welcome to London – the time is right to choose ITR as your localisation partner! STC Conference Programme The STC Conference programme included a wide range of presentations, workshops and
demonstrations. The technical sessions ran in parallel strands starting at 8.30am on
Monday and ran through until 5.30pm on Wednesday. For those with stamina, a full
series of post-conference workshops started on Thursday morning. The diversity and
sheer number of presentations made selection difficult for delegates. Many could be
seen poring over the programme planning their schedule like a military operation. Session content was categorised into the following themes: - Management
- Theory, Research Education and Training
- Tools and Technology
- Usability and Information Design
- Writing and Editing.
Topics ranged from the more traditional to cutting edge technology. Some examples
of session content are as follows: - Taming the Project Management Beast.
- Publishing with XML.
- Creating Effective User Surveys.
- A Single Sourcing Case Study.
- Building a Visible, Viable and Valuable Documentation team.
