ITR meets Translation Quality Standard EN 15038! September 2006 -
London UK
ITR International Translation Resources Ltd – a company long associated with translation quality assurance – has become a registered practitioner* of the new Translation Quality Standard DIN EN 15038, the only Standard currently applicable to translation service providers. This new Standard, introduced in September 2006 by a European consortium of Translation Associations and Standards bodies, defines procedures applicable to the production of professional translations. The Standard addresses fundamental requirements such as the recruitment and vetting of mother-tongue translators with appropriate domain expertise; proofreading by mother-tongue revisers; and a range of quality control processes geared to ensuring translation quality and end-user satisfaction. Helen Eckersley, ITR’s Production Director said "We welcome this new Standard as a significant development in our industry. Up until now, ITR had been a registered practitioner of Translation Quality Standard DIN 2345* and therefore we are very accustomed to the concept of translation quality assurance procedures. However, this new Standard (which supersedes the old one) is more rigorous and more relevant to current requirements." The company was established in 1985 and has built its reputation on its focus on translation quality. Now an industry leader, ITR provides multilingual translation and localisation services to global customers for software applications, documentation, online help and corporate websites. Nearly 10 years ago the company developed its own Translation Quality Assurance metric, ITR BlackJack™ that now sells to other translation service providers all over the world. ITR is also an active member of the SAE J2450 Translation Quality Metric committee and has contributed to the development of both the metric itself and the training material. John Fisher, ITR’s Marketing Director said at a recent conference "Although for many clients, cost-reduction and shorter delivery times are paramount, we are noticing that more buyers are starting to value the long-term benefits of translation quality. This is good news for ITR and good news for the industry in general." * DIN EN 15058 : registration number 7U035 (September 2006) ** DIN 2345: registration number 050/98 (1998)
